Design courses
Fashion
Following the trails set by leading fashion designing institutes like National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), National Institute of Design (NID) and others, we at SNU are also offering fashion designing courses after 12th and grooming the students professionally for a successful career after B Design. Our course earlier was known as B.Sc Fashion Designing while now we have brought the Bachelor of Fashion Design under one super-structure of B.Des Course – along with Communication Design and Product Design. No other Fashion Design Colleges in Kolkata or eastern India at large offers such a unique combination and variety of courses. Our claim, however, to be one of the best Fashion Designing Colleges in Kolkata is supplemented by our state-of-the-art infrastructure, qualified and experienced faculty and strong industry-connect. Besides organizing, as well as participating, in Fashion Shows – we regularly send our students for visits to craft cluster and compulsory internships that play a big role in making them acquainted with different job roles in relation to the industry.
Communication Design
Our Communication Design courses on the other hand are also of four years, where students choose their specialization after being trained with the basics of designing in the foundation. The lucrative career prospects in Communication Design includes – content creation, graphic designing, advertising, branding and promotion – both at the national and international level – where students are trained in conceptualization, illustration, typography, photography, graphic design, animation and UI/UX designing.
Product Design
Our Product Design Courses also have a similar structure – that holistically follows the path showcased by the National Institute of Design (NID) and other pioneering institutions in the field. In this course, we focus on conceptual development of design ideas and thinking process – through which our students are encouraged to make prototypes of both handmade and industrial products. The dedicated lab space – along with distinguished and experienced Faculty-members – help students to be ready for career prospects in designing, CAD techniques, clothing/textile technology, interior and spatial designing, exhibition designing, UX/UI designing and so on.
Fine Arts OR Visual Arts
Our Department of Fine Arts and Design at SNU, however, also constitutes one of the best BFA/MFA Colleges in Kolkata that offers Visual Arts courses in Applied Art, Painting, Printmaking and Sculpture. The four-year Undergraduate (UG) course is known as BFA (Bachelor of Fine Arts), while the two-year Postgraduate (PG) course is known as MFA (Master of Fine Arts). In case of some other institutes/universities, the same courses are also known as BVA (Bachelor of Visual Arts) and MVA (Master of Visual Arts).
