ANTI-RAGGING REPORT

II. Composition of the Anti-Ragging Committee.
The Anti-Ragging Committee comprises of:
- Head of the Institution (Chairperson)
- All HODs of the Institution
- Representatives from Faculty (male and female)
- Representatives from Students (senior and freshers)
- Representatives from Administrative Staff
- Local Police Officer (as liaison)
Roles & Responsibilities of the Committee
- Formulate and review anti-ragging policies.
- Conduct regular awareness campaigns.
- Oversee the working of Anti-Ragging Squads.
- Take cognizance of reported incidents and recommend actions.
- Submit compliance reports to UGC and affiliating bodies
III. Anti-Ragging Measures Undertaken:
1. Awareness Campaigns
- Date: May 1st 2024 – April 30th 2025
- Activities:
- Posters and banners displayed across the campus.
- Circulation of anti-ragging information to all students through orientation, workshops, seminars & skits.
- Digital awareness drive via university website and social media.
2. Orientation Programme for Freshers
- Date: July 19th July -22nd July 2024
- Highlights:
- Address by the Vice Chancellor, Dean, HOD and Anti-Ragging Member Secretary.
- Sensitization session on students’ rights and responsibilities.
- Experience sharing by senior students and alumni.
3. Anti-Ragging Declaration
- All students (new and existing) submitted offline/online affidavits (as per UGC norms) affirming non-participation in ragging.
- Affidavits were verified and stored securely.
4. Installation of Complaint Mechanisms
- Online complaint portal updated and monitored regularly.
- Complaint/suggestion boxes placed at strategic locations.
- Helpline numbers and email ID circulated and functional 24x7.
5. Regular Surveillance and Campus Rounds
- CCTV cameras installed at key locations.
- Surprise inspections conducted in hostels, classrooms, and common areas.
6. Events, Workshops & Seminars
- Anti-Ragging Day- This initiative aligns with our university's zero-tolerance policy against ragging and adheres to guidelines from the UGC.

Speaker: Retired Hon’ble Judge Shri. Tapas Kumar Mitra, followed by screening of Anti-Ragging videos, short films, and documentaries available on the UGC website & skits. - There was poster making competition on Anti-Ragging too.
- Anti-Ragging Week
- Date : 13th Aug 2024-18th Aug 2024
- Different events were organised from various departments during Anti-Ragging Week. Some of the events included:
The students of English Department took the ground to perform a mime act in the amphitheatre which reflected the nuisance caused by ragging in the life of students and how they can fight against it together. A movie, Lean On Me (1989), screening was organised to initiate dialogues and exchange of ideas among students regarding anti-ragging awareness. There was participation of around 150 students.
There were Anti-Ragging essay Competitions, slogan competitions and extempore too in which students participated with full enthusiasm from the Department of Law which comprised of about 45 students. There were also Lectures on Anti-Ragging. The students have been made aware of the different laws and punishments related with ragging and have been well sensitized in this regard. Around 200 students participated in the event.
Sister Nivedita University Nursing Institute had organized various awareness sessions for the students to inform them about the consequences of ragging and the anti-ragging measures in place. Throughout the course of the events, our students participated in poster competition and presentation regarding anti-ragging measures, one of whom had secured third position as well. Various intra departmental sessions were organized by the faculties as well as students. Around 50 students participated.
To mark the University’s zero-tolerance policy towards ragging, the Department of Applied Nutrition and Dietetics participated in several contests like Instagram Threads, Instagram Reel Making, YouTube Video and charts and poster making. The different contests and programs started on 12.08.2024 and continued throughout the week until 18.08.2024. Around 80 students participated.
Students of the Department of Psychology participated in the program, in the presence of the respective faculty members. Students from different semesters came together to raise their voices against ragging. While some students read out pieces of poetry and self-written essays, others sang and danced to the tunes of Rabindra sangeet to raise awareness on this pertinent issue. Students also volunteered to share their views and opinions on ragging. As psychology students, they shared the negative consequences and ill effects of the practice of ragging. The long-term impact of ragging was also discussed.
The department of Physics organised Anti-Ragging slogan competition, poster competition & awareness quiz. All students actively participated in the same.
Sister Nivedita University has various departments & during this event all of them had their students participate actively. The activities of this event aimed to promote a ragging-free environment and foster unity and respect among students. All the student participants overwhelmingly expressed positive sentiments about the anti-ragging event. They appreciated the informative sessions, activities, and the overall focus on promoting a harmonious and respectful campus environment.
7. Formation of Anti-Ragging Squads
- Multiple squads formed with staff and student volunteers.
- Conduct surprise inspections at canteens, classrooms, and common areas.
- Interact with students regularly to identify early signs of ragging.
- Act as first responders to any reported incident.

8. Student Mentorship Programme
- Faculty-assigned mentors for every group of freshers.
- Regular meetings held to monitor their well-being and integration.
9. Zero Tolerance Policy Declaration
- Institutional commitment towards zero-tolerance on ragging reinforced through:
- Parent-teacher meets
- Addressing freshers during orientation
- Academic council meetings
IV. Outcome & Impact:
- An incident of Ragging was reported in the month of August 2025 from two departments Pharmacy & other from Mass Communication. As SNU has zero tolerance policy for Ragging, it was immediately decided to take up the matter and take depositions from all the concerned students and record the same. After proper investigations it was found that the case was not of Ragging.
- Another incident of Ragging was reported from junior students of Mass Communication about a senior student of the same department. The students were called and their depositions were taken. It was inferred that the Senior student was guilty and suspended from doing classes till the parents of the student came and met the authorities. The matter was then forwarded to the Disciplinary Authority for further action.
- Further no ragging incident was reported
- It further enhanced student satisfaction and security.
- Positive feedback from freshers and parents.
V. Future Plan:
- Increase collaboration with NGOs for psychological support.
- Introduce peer-led anti-ragging drama/skit competitions.
- Launch of an anti-ragging mobile app (internal to the university).

Ragging-Free Campus
Sister Nivedita University is committed to maintaining a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all students. Ragging in any form-physical, verbal, or psychological is strictly prohibited on campus as per the guidelines of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India and the UGC regulations.
We believe that education thrives in an atmosphere of dignity, trust, and mutual respect. To ensure this, strict disciplinary measures are in place against those found guilty of ragging. At the same time, we actively promote awareness programs, counseling sessions, and student support systems to create a culture of harmony and friendship.
