Considering the growing importance of nutrition as a part of immunity boosting in the present pandemic situation, the university dreamt of contributing to the improvement of the public health status through the Department of Applied Nutrition and Dietetics by attainment of excellence in teaching, research and training of young minds.

The department of Applied Nutrition and Dietetics is a budding division under the School of Life Science in the highly decked campus of Sister Nivedita University. The department is enriched by the presence of highly qualified and well educated faculty members and staff who have completed their education at different Institute/University of global repute. Smart classroom facility and well equipped laboratory make learning the subject more interesting and enjoyable. Application based learning makes the students more curious, innovative and enthusiastic about the subject. Our departmental library facility serves the students to fulfil their quest for knowledge. The entire under graduate syllabus is structured according to the CBCS format recommended by University Grant Commission (UGC). . The curriculum is designed exclusively to help students in their future career development and includes a number of laboratory and field practical course units. The syllabus encompasses highly modern topics like Nutraceuticals and Nutrigenomics, Molecular biology, Sports nutrition, Patient counselling technique, Public Health Nutrition, Nutritional epidemiology, Food standard and Quality Control, Food service and Customer Economics and Immunology. Students are encouraged to undertake a research project under the supervision of academic staffs. We motivate students to participate in different science exhibitions and competitions, hackathon and science fair. The faculty and staff members at the university go out of their way to enhance the knowledge and skills of students and above all to mold them into sensible and socially responsible human being.

RESEARCH INTEREST:

Dr. Das is interested in research involving the prevalence of lifestyle induced non-communicable diseases in the society, the risk factors associated with it and the role of nutraceuticals in the prevention of these diseases. Community nutrition and public health are the primary focus area.

Study involving green synthesis of nanoparticles and their efficacy in preventing diseases is also one of the fascinating fields of his research. This could lead to new arena of research in nutraceuticals and their efficacy in preventing lifestyle induced several diseases.

She has 5 publications including paper and chapter publications in UGC-approved journals. Her research interests include nutritionally rich food product development. Ms. Das has expertise in protein nutraceutical development utilizing industrial food waste and its therapeutic application against lifestyle disorders. She has also worked on developing food nanoemulsion and its characterization.  Her future research interest is exploring nanotechnology for food product development, and sustainable nutrition through waste utilization.
