Law

The School of law of Sister Nivedita University is entirely focused on imparting legal education to the students covering all branches of law. This school deserves its strength and ethos from the qualified and dedicated faculty. The institution has the unique and proud privilege of intimate association with prominent legal professionals as Visiting Faculties. Lectures, workshops and discussions are part of the activities of the School of law along with simulation exercises such as moot court exercises, debates, research writing, mentored seminars and drafting workshops which help in strengthening the confidence of the students and make them industry-ready. This school of law fulfills its objectives of training not just with the assistance of the finest of the legal practitioners but also by nurturing professionals and thinkers in every sphere of society.

ACADEMICS:
Teaching method : Teaching - learning process ensures that students acquire knowledge in the respective fields thoroughly. The Faculty Members not only keep the students abreast of the recent developments in the legal world but also involve them in research based learning.
Problem solving, Mock Trial, Moot Court, Research Writing, Case study, Active and Experimental learning, Court Visit and innovative mechanisms using the latest technological tools are used in the teaching learning process.
The School of Law at SNU strives to inculcate in every student a sense of responsibility towards society and respect for human life besides developing in them the highest standard of professional behaviour and personal integrity.

DR. DEBASHREE MUKHERJEE

Experience:
Teaching experience: over 18 yrs.; Practicing experience: over 6 yrs. (Hon’ble High Court at Calcutta and State Administrative Tribunal) Debashree Mukherjee has completed her Ph.D. in Law from the University of Burdwan. She has been awarded Gold Medals at both PG and UG levels. and is the recipient of the Saroj Mazumdar Medal by the University for her consistent academic performance. She has over eighteen years of teaching experience at both UG and PG levels and six years of experience in practicing at the Hon’ble High Court at Kolkata and at the West Bengal State Administrative Tribunal. She has published over twenty articles in edited volumes and various Law Journals and edited books on various aspects of Law. Her research interest areas include Environmental Law, Human Rights, International Law and International Relations.

DR. BANHITA BOSE

Dr. Banhita has been awarded PhD in Law by the West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences, Kolkata in the year 2024. She completed her LLM with specialization in crime and torts from the University of Calcutta, in the year 2012 with first class. She has a rich experience of 12 plus years in legal academia at both UG & PG level. She qualified WBSET in the year 2018. She has published over ten articles in various international & national peer reviewed journals & books, including Scopus indexed journal. Her research interest includes Gender Justice, Victimology, and Criminal Law. She is a life member of the South Asian Society of Criminology and Victimology. She was awarded a Copyright for her work on Crowdsourcing Based Automated Model for Unprecedented Cyber Attack Detention and Application of It in Law. She was awarded a special recognition by The Consulate General of the United States of America for her research assistance in Gender Based Violence and Access to Justice event held at the American Center in Kolkata.

She completed her LL.M from Department of Law (Hazra Campus) University of Calcutta with first class. She was first class first in B.A. LL.B(H) from SKAIL, University of Kalyani. She has good number of publications in various recognised journals. She has also participated and presented paper in various national and international journals.

Seven years of practice in the field of civil & criminal matters as Advocate in Jharkhand High Court, Ranchi. Presently working as Assistant Professor – law at Sister Nivedita University, New Town & pursuing PhD in Labour Law from the same University. She has published several articles, book chapters in National & International journals and Journals of repute. She has four publications in UGC Care journals and has presented several papers in various National and International Conferences/Seminars. She has also participated in several workshops, training programs and seminars. Her areas of interest include Labour Law, Company law, Family law & Constitutional law.

Dr. Susmita Dhar

Dr. Susmita Dhar has been awarded her Ph.D. degree from Burdwan University and her LL.M from University of Calcutta. Graduating from Hooghly Mohsin College, she has an experience of 6 Years in teaching and 8 years of Practicing experience at the Calcutta High Court in Criminal and Writ jurisdiction. She has been a State Funded Research Fellow of Burdwan University. She has Published 25 Articles in various journal and edited books. She Participated in 39 National and International seminars and conferences as paper presenter. She has also taught as guest lecturer in the Department of Law, Burdwan University and Department of Law, University of Calcutta for many years. Her research interest areas include IPR, environmental law, Corporate governance, Company Law, Law of Evidence and Banking Law.

Misthi Saha

She has qualified UGC NET in February, 2022. She has presented papers in a number of conferences and published in various journals. Prior to joining as an academician she was practicing as an Advocate in the High Court at Calcutta and Alipore Judges' Court.

Soumika Aich Roy

Soumika Aich Roy has graduated in B.A. LL.B (Hons) from Department of Law, University of Calcutta (Hazra campus), where she also completed her LL.M with specialization in Tort and Crime. She has done her schooling from G. D. Birla Centre for Education. She was enrolled in the All India Bar in 2020 and has qualified UGC NET for Law in 2023. She has previously worked in the Department of Legal Science at Techno India University, Kolkata. She has acted as course lead for various internship programs organised by KMCT Law College, Kerala, and has also delivered special lecture sessions for legal training of West Bengal Police cadets in the Swami Vivekananda State Police Academy, Barrackpore. She has participated and presented papers in various national and international legal seminars and has published papers in several legal journals and books. Her areas of interest include crime and criminology, social issues, forensic science, use of AI, criminal profiling and other related fields.

My name is Susmita Bose. I have been working as an Assistant Professor of Law since 2023. I did my BA.LLB. from South Calcutta Law College, University of Calcutta from 2013-2018 with First Class, thereafter I completed my LLM. in Business Laws from Amity University Kolkata 2019-2020 with First class. Since I had keen interest in academics and research, I published reasearch articles in online legal journals and cleared WBSET in 2023 alongside I continued legal practice in District Courts and Calcutta High Court in order to get hands on experience alongwith technical knowledge for 3 years.

I have keen interest in Constitutional law ,corporate laws, personal laws  and Environmental laws.

Prior to joining as an Assistant professor in Sister Nivedita University, she was an assistant professor in Heritage Law College for 2 years. She has worked as an educator and  an content creator in Examrace and in Finology legal(you tube channel). She has Published articles in research journals two of them are in UGC CARE journals. She has done internship in High Court of Calcutta and under Famous mediator  Advocate Pradip Taraffdar during her graduation. She has experience in freelance teaching in a NGO( Hope care Foundation) for six months. 

Her area of interest  include Human rights, Corporate Laws, Intellectual Property law, Jurisprudence, Cyber law, Constitutional law, Environmental law, Family laws and International Laws.

SUKANYA MUKHERJEE

Sukanya Mukherjee is an Assistant Professor and PhD Research Scholar at the Sister Nivedita University, Kolkata. She completed her LLM from University of Burdwan, Golapbag Campus in 2022, after completing her B.A.LL.B (H) from Amity University Kolkata in the year 2020. She cleared the 25th State Eligibility Exam (SET) in the year 2023. She has multiple publications and paper presentations to her credit and has been associated as a visiting faculty for more than one year. In addition, she also has prior research experience being a part of CRSGPP and DPIIT-IPR Chair, WBNUJS and other practical industry experiences.

Ms. Shikha Lakshmi joined Sister Nivedita University, Kolkata, as an Assistant Professor in 2024. She holds a BA. LLB degree from South Calcutta Law College, University of Calcutta (2020), and an LL.M. in Business Law from Amity University, Kolkata (2021). She has successfully qualified for UGC-NET in December 2021 and June 2022 (merged session), and WB-SET in 2023.

With 2.3 years of teaching experience, Ms. Lakshmi previously served as an Assistant Professor at Law College Durgapur (February 2023 – February 2024) and was also appointed as an Assistant Professor at Arka Jain University, Jamshedpur, Jharkhand.

Her core areas of teaching include Commercial Law, Constitutional Law, and Intellectual Property Rights (IPR). Additionally, she holds a strong academic interest in law related to Agriculture.

Srestha Nag

Sohom Nandi has completed his LL. M in Corporate and Commercial Law specialization from the West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences, Kolkata in the year 2024, after completing his BBA LL.B. (Hons) from Amity University in 2023. He has successfully cleared UGC NET examination (both JRF and Assistant Professor) in December, 2024 and secured AIR 36. During his LL. M, he has secured 1st position in the following subjects: International Trade Law, Company Law, and Insolvency & Bankruptcy Laws. He has also received an 'outstanding' grade in his dissertation in the field of Securities Law. He has 5 publications in peer-reviewed journals. His areas of interest include Company Law, Competition Law, Insolvency and Bankruptcy Laws, International Commercial Arbitration, International Trade Law, Securities Law, and so on. Ms. Puja Singh is a committed legal academician with a strong foundation in criminal law and a passion for teaching and research. She completed her B.B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) from the Indian Institute of Legal Studies, Siliguri, under the University of North Bengal, and went on to earn her LL.M. with a specialization in Criminal Law from Symbiosis International University.

Currently a Lecturer at the School of Law, Sister Nivedita University, Kolkata, Ms. Singh combines academic rigor with practical insight to engage and inspire her students. Her areas of interest include criminal jurisprudence, penology, and procedural law. She has contributed to the field through publications in esteemed peer-reviewed journals and remains actively involved in legal research and academic development.

AKASH BHUNIA

Mr. Akash Bhunia completed his B.A.LL.B (H) from South Calcutta Law College, The University of Calcutta. After that he practised for 6 months in the High Court at Calcutta. After that he cleared CLAT PG and completed his LL.M from the WBNUJS in Law and Technology. During his time in the WBNUJS, he was the CR of his stream, participated in numerous conferences and also helped in organising 3 major conferences in his Alma Mater. He joined the School of Law, Sister Nivedita University on August, 2024 and has been serving as a Lecturer at the same from November, 2024.
