Welcome to the Department of Microbiology in the School of Life Sciences! Microorganisms are invisible entities yet they are an indispensable part of the human body and the environment. Some of them are our friends whereas others are our foes. Microorganisms play a pivotal role in governing the existence of all other forms of life on earth and in their absence eventually life would get extinguished. A deeper understanding of this invisible world of microbes would foster practical approaches towards maintaining healthy ecosystems as well as promoting the health of all other forms of life. Our faculty members are actively engaged in imparting not only the theoretical knowledge but also a practical understanding of the subject both at the undergraduate and the postgraduate level. Apart from the normal class activities the students are involved in research work and projects where they get an opportunity to tap their experimental skills and abilities. We strongly believe that our students have a strong potential to make significant contributions in the field of scientific research, academia as well as professional organizations.
